How it works
The corners stay shallow and outside, safeties divide the deep field, and underneath defenders distribute hook zones. The structure encourages short throws while protecting both sidelines from immediate vertical access.
Limit outside explosives, disrupt receiver releases, and rally to underneath completions with zone vision.
Two safeties each guard half of the deep field. Cornerbacks stay closer to the line and defend short throws near the sidelines.
The hook defenders must collision seam releases because the half safeties cannot overlap both the sideline and middle without help.
Call structure
The balanced two-high shell is usually visible, but corners can vary press and off technique to hide whether they carry or squat.
